Oprah Daily: For Women of Color, Menopause Is Different

Omisade Burney Scott, 55, is the author of Black Girl’s Guide to Surviving menopause podcast, and social networking project. The first mission is to normalize menopause. This natural process will affect more than half the population, yet it remains silent. The second is to bring attention to the voices of Black women, and other gender-expansive people, who often experience the same symptoms as white women, including hot flashes, insomnia, joint discomfort, and joint pain, but in a different (and sometimes more intense) manner.
